Support Sudan through the world’s worst humanitarian and protection crisis for women and girls
Three years of war in Sudan has created the world's worst humanitarian and protection crisis for women and girls.
Widespread killings, mass displacement, and the systematic use of sexual violence have left more than 17 million women and girls in need of humanitarian assistance. Blockades and ongoing insecurity have worsened already dire conditions — women and girls who need food, safe shelter, healthcare, and an end to the violence.
This is a war on women and girls.
This is for the woman with nowhere safe to run.
For the woman unable to seek food, water or shelter without risking her safety.
For the young girl carrying an unwanted pregnancy following rape when her village was attacked by armed men.

For the 45-year-old woman who suffered horrific violence under siege in Al Dilling in South Kordofan last year.
For the a 25-year-old woman who survived the El Fasher siege.
Sexual violence is not a by-product of this war. It is a tactic of it.

17.1 million women and girls need humanitarian assistance in 2026.
13.6 million women and girls need food and livelihoods support.
The number of people — mostly women and girls — needing support services for gender-based violence has quadrupled since before the war.
Sexual violence as a tactic of war is being used to inflict terror, humiliation, pain, and control over women and girls, and to oppress entire populations.
There are documented cases of rape in front of family members, often accompanied with other forms of severe physical abuse, as well as violence against those attempting to intervene.
These atrocities are being carried out with widespread impunity.

Sudanese women are delivering lifesaving support to their communities. They are running community kitchens, supporting survivors, and helping displaced families find shelter. They are mediating disputes, countering hate speech, and negotiating humanitarian access. They are leading the response — and they are doing it under severe strain.
How is UN Women supporting women and girls in Sudan?

In every crisis, women and girls bear the heaviest burden. UN Women's solution is simple and effective: fund the women-led organisations already on the frontlines.
UN Women works across Sudan with more than 45 women-led and women's rights organisations across 15 states, delivering protection, psychosocial support, and essential supplies — while supporting women's leadership throughout the response.
But most women-led organisations face severe funding shortages and ongoing insecurity. Without urgent support, many won't survive.
We support women-led and women's rights organisations to provide:
- Protection services
- Psychosocial support
- Essential supplies
- Safety and healthcare access
- Women's leadership in humanitarian response
In the world's worst protection crisis for women and girls, this support is critical.
